VIA Kernel Panic with Sangoma S518 ADSL Cards

When using the drivers for the Sangoma S518 ADSL card on the VIA EPIA architecture you must install them using the following

./Setup install –arch=i386

otherwise on connecting to the isp you will get a kernel panic and the whole machine will freeze

  1. Yes in this particular instance its on the Fedora Core 3 Kernel 2.6.9-1 on a Via Epia CL600, although according to Sangoma you need the -i386 for all via architecture motherboards

  2. No I dont only Fedora but I think it works fine see this guys blog http://scottstuff.net/scott/archives/000369.html

Only problem with the card is they are expensive you could try Traverse Pulsar card if you run a 2.4 kernel on OpenBSD as at this point of time the open driver has known issues with a 2.6 kernel. Also depends on where you are in the world as Traverse have no reseller currently in the UK (where I am based) and you would have to buy from http://www.mapleleaf-technologies.com who are in Germany.

The Sangoma card can be purchased from the only UK supplier which is Eddy at http://www.freestuffjunction.co.uk he is a great guy, if you need support although you shouldnt, he also specialises in bonded adsl using the Sangoma.

Drop me a mail via the contact us hyperlink on here and I will discuss further if you want to.
